US politicians should stop dreaming and face reality

Of all Donald Trump's remarks on actions against China on Saturday, there is only one sentence that tells a little truth.

"The rest of the world was electrified by a sense of optimism that Hong Kong was a glimpse into China's future — not that Hong Kong would grow into a reflection of China's past."

Even that sentence is not totally true: That's not the expectation of the whole world, but of US politicians only. They hoped to intervene in the domestic affairs of China so as to make it follow a Western mode, something they planted on Hong Kong during its long colonial rule.

What scenery do US politicians expect to see in China? Just look at what has happened to Hong Kong since nearly one year ago.

They want a China where violence hurts the people. Since June 2019, violent "protesters" in Hong Kong have already injured thousands of people, burnt some passerby alive, and killed an innocent cleaner by throwing bricks at him. Yet US politicians said this is "a beautiful sight to behold". They want the Chinese mainland to suffer same types of riots.

They want a China where their "diplomats" could intervene freely in its domestic affairs. Officials from US consulate were several times photographed talking with leaders of rioters in Hong Kong. Some familiar faces, most probably US agents there, were even seen helping the rioters use weapons. US politicians want their diplomats to do the same to the Chinese mainland.

They want a China that's not prosperous. According to official data from the HK Special Administrative Region government, the city's GDP has fallen in the first quarter of 2020 and the whole year's GDP is expected to see a negative growth of 4 to 7 percent. COVID-19 epidemic is one of the causes, but Paul Chan Mo-po, HKSAR financial secretary, warned the violence coming back might be the biggest threat.

They want a China where the rule of law is trampled upon. When the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, discussed about national security legislation for the HKSAR, US politicians expressed their objections. They hoped to intervene in China's legislative moves, which is unacceptable to any sovereign country.

That's what US politicians expect from China. They have already victimized Hong Kong, and their words show they even dream about victimizing China as a whole.

Better give up that dream and come back to reality. Violence is spreading across the US because of the death of black man George Floyd, which shows how deeply the US society is divided. US politicians should do their jobs and help solve problems in the US, instead of trying to create new problems and troubles in other countries.
