A plethora of cultural landmarks and platforms in Changsha showcase the vitality and potential of diverse cultures gathering in the city.

From the elegant art performances at the Meixihu International Culture and Arts Center to the dreamy light shows at Tianxin Pavilion Light and Shadow Park and outstanding Mango TV, a plethora of cultural landmarks and platforms in Changsha, capital of central China’s Hunan Province, showcase the vitality and potential of diverse cultures gathering in the city.
Collision of Historical Culture and Modern Technology
The Tianxin Pavilion is a tower located on the only remaining section of Changsha’s ancient city wall. In 1924, the area around the Tianxin Pavilion was converted into the first city park in Hunan Province.
On October 1, 2024, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its establishment, the park integrated cutting-edge technology with the protection of historical relics, comprehensively upgraded the garden landscape and art exhibitions, and launched night tour programs such as light shows and art performances. Through advanced lighting technology, it has perfectly integrated Changsha’s historical culture and modern technology.

In the light shows, ethereal scenes such as soaring dragons, blooming flowers on the walls, and New Year wishes vividly depict the cultural prosperity of the Tianxin Pavilion. Tourists can experience the millennia- old charm and vibrant spirit of Changsha in just a few dozen minutes of park tours. Since its opening, the Tianxin Pavilion Light and Shadow Park has become a top choice for tourists seeking night tours in the city, with daily visits exceeding 20,000.

A New Model for Media Convergence
Mango TV, a well-known online video platform in Changsha and even around China, plays an exemplary role in China’s entertainment industry while powerfully promoting Hunan culture.
Founded in 2014, Mango TV was named after Hunan TV under Hunan Radio and Television Group, which has been affectionately dubbed “Mango Channel” by viewers because its logo resembles a mango. Mango TV and Hunan TV have worked together over the past decade to integrate old and new media and empower each other.
The duo has leveraged Hunan TV’s outstanding long video products and optimized the intellectual property value of Hunan TV’s reality shows to become a leader in China’s online audio-visual new media. By promoting self-produced online reality shows and developing e-commerce and offline live entertainment industries, Mango TV and Hunan TV continue to break down barriers between creation and operation, comprehensively building a diversified industrial ecosystem and leading the way in media integration practice among their peers.
Malan Mountain, where Mango TV is located, has evolved from a little-known hill in the eastern suburbs of Changsha to a new landmark for China’s entertainment industry, becoming a top-tier tourist draw in the city.

A Palace of Elegant Art

The Meixihu International Culture and Art Center is located in Changsha’s Xiangjiang New District. The 100,000-square-meter structure cost two billion yuan (US$273 million) to build. It was designed by Zaha Hadid (1950-2016), an Iraqi-British architect who won the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.

The art center has become a new cultural landmark in Changsha thanks to its unique design and multiple functions. From a bird’s-eye view, its three venues—a theater, a contemporary art museum, and a multi- purpose hall—appear like lotus petals falling on the banks of Meixi Lake. As a modern theater with elegant artistic atmosphere and first-class performance facilities, the art center has attracted numerous renowned artists and art troupes from home and abroad.
It is a destination where tourists can intimately experience the charm of elegant art, join various public cultural activities, and communicate with artists face to face.
