On January 15, 2020, the “China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship” photo exhibition was held at the Strand Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar. The exhibition is guided by the State Council Information Office of China and the Embassy of China in Myanmar, sponsored by China International Publishing Group (CIPG), and jointly organized by China Pictorial Publications, China Cultural Center (Yangon) and Shwe Than Lwin Co., Ltd. More than 200 guests attended the event, including representatives from Myanmar’s political, business and cultural circles, overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises and students in Myanmar, and media organizations from both countries.
The photo exhibition coincides with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to Myanmar. With the theme of “Paukphaw Friendship for a Community with a Shared Future,” the exhibition displays the natural scenery, historical culture, folk customs of China and Myanmar, as well as economic and trade exchanges and people-to-people bonds between the two countries. The exhibition, with around 100 photos on display, consists of three parts: “Beautiful China, Beautiful Myanmar,” “Nourished by the Same River, Sharing Profound Friendship” and “Living a Better Life under the Belt and Road Initiative.”
Minister Xu Lin of the State Council Information Office of China attended the event. In his opening address, President of CIPG Du Zhanyuan noted that China and Myanmar are connected by mountains and rivers, and they share a border line of more than 2,100 kilometers. Since ancient times, he said, people of the two countries have formed close bonds, lived in harmony and shared a “Paukphaw” (fraternal) friendship. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar. Over the past 70 years, the two countries have supported and cooperated closely with each other, and jointly advocated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which has been widely praised by the international community. To mark President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to Myanmar, we are holding the “China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship” photo exhibition. The exhibition features photos showcasing the beautiful natural scenery, social life and traditional friendship of China and Myanmar, as well as the wisdom and diligence of the two peoples to jointly create a better future and write a new chapter for China-Myanmar “Paukphaw” friendship.
Yang Shouzheng, Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, and U Kyaw Lwin, chairman of Shwe Than Lwin Co., Ltd., also addressed the event. Yang stressed that cultural diversity leads to exchanges between different civilizations, exchanges promote mutual learning, and mutual learning drives development. He hopes that the photo exhibition will deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples.
Li Xia, editor-in-chief of China Pictorial Publications, presided over the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition.
Daw Than Than Nu, chairperson of the U Nu Daw Mya Yi Foundation, Nyunt Maung Shein, chairman of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies, and Daw Nang Lao Ngin, director of the Yangon National Museum, attended the event.
