China’s first domestically-built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, departed Shanghai on December 24, 2023, for its first trial operation.

Hailed as the crown jewel of the shipbuilding industry, this large cruise ship signifies a significant leap in China’s shipbuilding technology, making it the fifth country globally, in the ranks of Germany, France, Italy, and Finland, with the capability to construct large cruise ships at international standards.

Joined by invited guests, the ship commenced its trial voyage with nearly 1,300 crew members from various parts of the world, simulating real operational conditions to assess the ship’s capabilities.

The vessel has 16 floors with a diverse range of leisure facilities including a theater, specialty restaurant, shopping plaza, art gallery, and water park, earning it the title of a “floating modern city.”

Blending Eastern and Western aesthetics and incorporating diverse ideas and innovative concepts, the ship was meticulously crafted to offer unique culinary experiences, immersive entertainment, high-end shopping, and creative spaces at sea.

Guests can indulge in global cuisine at specialty restaurants, enjoy spectacular performances in a thousand-seat theater, shop for global goods in a vast duty-free mall, and experience immersive moments in the industrial art café.

Following the conclusion of the first trial operation on December 25, a second trial operation is scheduled to ensure optimal services for the first commercial passengers.

The ship will officially set sail from Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal to popular destinations in Northeast Asia on January 1, 2024.
