A blue-and-white car with a 5G logo at the booth of the Japanese global glass manufacturer AGC catches many visitors’ attention at the exhibition area for Intelligent Industry & Information Technology during the third China International Import Expo(CIIE) in Shanghai. The real exhibit of the booth, however, is not the fancy car, but the invisible technology used in the vehicle — the 5G on-glass antennas.

5G technology has been commercialized in China. The Internet of Things will thrive with the help of 5G technology, heralding one of the most desirable prospects ofthe future. A developer and manufacturer ofnew materials, AGC places its focus on 5G antennas used in the vehicles in the 5G scenario and developed 5G on-glass antennas, a solution to the problem of limited 5G signal transmission distance and 5G signalsbeing blocked by ordinary glass used in connected cars. The transparent antennas on the windshield of the car will not occupy any space or compromise the exterior integrity of the car. AGC has developed the third-generation 5G on-glass antennas featuring high transparency and low latency, which can provide stable 5G signals for vehicles running at a high speed.

The spherical ceramic particles using electrofusion technology feature properties of high fire resistance, high strength, and high thermal conductivity. According to exhibition staff of AGC, auto parts making requires high-precision molds, and 3D printing can form such a mold within one or two days while the traditional printing methods usually take months. by Zhou Xin/China Pictorial
