Global Support for China’s Anti-Epidemic Efforts

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, China has taken unprecedented measures under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, to contain the outbreak by pooling national medical personnel and supplies to the hardest-hit regions, building new hospitals, extending the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, postponing reopening of schools and some businesses, and imposing travel restrictions. Many foreign leaders have praised and expressed support for China’s efforts to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak.

China’s powerful system and effective measures to prevent and control novel coronavirus-related pneumonia have rarely been seen globally, remarked Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), during his visit to Beijing. 

The WHO and the international community highly appreciate and fully support the decisive measures the Chinese government has taken to deal with the outbreak and also thank China for its tremendous efforts to curb the spread of the contagion, said Ghebreyesus, and the WHO is eager to enhance communication and cooperation with China.

In his call to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed sympathy for the pain and losses of Chinese families and wished each patient a speedy recovery.

China’s resolute measures under the leadership of President Xi will contain the epidemic and minimize losses, noted Putin, adding that the Russian people are happy to help with any necessary aid for the friendly Chinese people and relevant Russian departments will work closely with their counterparts in China to eliminate this common threat.

Kim Jong-un, chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), extended sincere sympathy for the outbreak of the contagion and offered support for China’s efforts to prevent and control the disease. Kim declared that the WPK, the people of the DPRK and himself consider the epidemic that hit China as something they are also suffering, and have strong faith the CPC, the Chinese government and people will win the battle against the virus under Xi’s leadership.

Calling Chinese leaders’ efficient response and the heroism of the Chinese people admirable, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Belarus, always a reliable and loyal friend of China, will send medical supplies to help the Chinese people battle the epidemic.

Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn commented that the international community has been greatly impressed by the efforts and determination of the Chinese government to fight the epidemic and the extensive epidemic prevention measures it has taken. The Thai people and himself will pull together with the Chinese people in times of trouble, the king said, extending wishes that China will secure an early victory against the epidemic.

Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari said that at this difficult time, Nepal will firmly unite with the Chinese government and the friendly Chinese people. Bhandari expressed appreciation and support for Chinese leaders’ extraordinary efforts to contain the epidemic and thanked China for caring for Nepali citizens in China.

Tunisian President Kais Saied praised the Chinese government’s efforts to combat the epidemic and expressed confidence that under the strong and wise leadership of Xi, China’s efforts to contain the outbreak will soon pay off.

Cameroonian President Paul Biya offered sympathy and support to the Chinese people on behalf of the Cameroonian people as the Chinese government and people fight a heroic battle against the epidemic.

Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara announced that the government and people of Cote d’Ivoire firmly support the efforts made by the Chinese government and people in fighting the epidemic.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan assured the world of his country’s appreciation and firm support for China’s efforts to combat the epidemic and thanked China for providing help to Pakistani citizens in China. Pakistan firmly believes that China will leverage its unique institutional advantages to overcome the epidemic, Khan noted, adding that Pakistan is willing to mobilize the country’s medical supply reserves to assist China as it firmly stands alongside its neighbor.

Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh said that the people of Mongolia empathize with the Chinese government and people as they face the challenges posed by the epidemic. The Mongolian people believe that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government and with the concerted efforts of the Chinese people, China will soon rein in the epidemic, he added.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong assured China that Singapore would closely cooperate to jointly combat the epidemic. He added that China is taking effective measures to control the illness and Singapore is already prepared, so there is no need to panic.
