Launch Ceremony for the “Understanding China” Book Series and Documentary Held in Beijing

On the afternoon of December 16, 2018, the launch ceremony for the “Understanding China” book series as well as a related TV documentary, co-released by the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS) and China International Publishing Group (CIPG), was held in Beijing Hotel. Jiang Jianguo, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), president of CIIDS Zheng Bijian, president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade Yohei Kono, and initiator of the 21st Century Council Nicolas Berggruen, as well as writers of the book series and the crew of the documentary attended the ceremony, presided over by vice president of CIIDS Wu Shulin.

Lu Cairong, vice president of China International Publishing Group, delivered a speech at the launch ceremony for the “Understanding China” series and documentary in Beijing Hotel. The book series was co-published by China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, and China International Publishing Group.

The “Understanding China” series focuses on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the CPC’s practice in governance since its 18th National Congress. It gives an interpretation to China’s narrative in a period of profound historic transformation and its efforts to achieve the goal of national rejuvenation, unveils the secrets of its rapid development and shares Chinese wisdom and experience with the international community.  

When addressing the ceremony, Jiang Jianguo said that the “Understanding China” series adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and explains to the world “where China came from and will go,” through an extensive understanding of the national conditions of China and the international situation.

The “Understanding China” series is published in Chinese and English, with the first part comprising 20 books compiled and written by dozens of pioneers in their respective fields.

According to CIPG vice president Lu Cairong, from a professional perspective, the book series interprets China-related topics in which the international community and overseas readers show great interest, and provides vivid and authoritative references for the world to understand China. Lu also hoped that the book series can enrich the aim and value of the Understanding China Conference and become a new platform for countries around the world to better understand China.

The book series is published in Chinese and English, with the first part comprising 20 books compiled and written by dozens of pioneers in their respective fields. The launch ceremony was part of this year’s Understanding China Conference that opened on the same day and will run through December 18.
