Summer Davos Closes at Dalian
On the afternoon of July 3, the 13th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF), also known as Summer Davos, concluded in the northeastern Chinese coastal city of Dalian.
As the foremost global summit on innovation, science and technology organized by the WEF, the Annual Meeting of the New Champions is held alternatively in the Chinese cities of Dalian and Tianjin. This was the seventh time for Dalian to host this event.
In his close speech, WEF President Borge Brende called this year’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions an “exceptional meeting” and highlighted four achievements from the meeting: UAE joined Closing the Skills Gap, a forum project aimed at reshaping countries’ education and training to better prepare their people for the future; China will open a branch of the Tropical Forest Alliance which aims to reduce deforestation; A coalition of business and environmental NGOs, Business for Nature, was launched; Bahrain will run a pilot scheme on the ethical procurement of artificial intelligence.
When addressing the closing ceremony, Jin Guowei, vice mayor of Dalian, expressed thanks for those who made the meeting a great success on behalf of the host city, and hoped to present an even more fantastic meeting two years later.
The Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2020 will be held in Tianjin. Jin Xiangjun, vice mayor of Tianjin, invited delegates to his city for the meeting.
